Thought I had forgotten about this blog but suddenly google has put me in their search and sent a number of visitors. I had an email from Mr Conroe asking me to give him some information as he is thinking of moving here.
Well personally I have never stayed in colonades condominium although I have a few friends who did or used to. I was once interested too in buying a unit but never got to do it. The space is big so that is one plus point.
But from my last post, it seems quite a few readers have bad experiences. Read for yourself
I would think there are many problems of leakage due the the buildings being old and poorly constructed. Then there's cracking and falling concrete. I'm more interested in this as my inquiries show that what is happening here is similar to what happened in the Hospital Queen just across the road..
How To Ensure Safety?
Who is there to look after the safety of occupants of buildings? No one can tell me who and it's a big shame. How do we know the management is not hiding something? It has happened before and people have lost lives. (like in Korea)
To avoid any bad incidents, we should lobby for some safety standards in old buildings. The engineers and architects association should lobby for this.
So the question you should first ask is , Is Colonnades condo safe to live in? Anybody with ideas? engineer?
Anyone who has true experiences to share please do so to help Mr Conroe decide.
ReplyDeleteMyself I was studying in Kuala Lumpur when the Highland Condo there collapsed. I was staying around there and it was really scary. Tun Musa Hitam's son died together with his wife and son.
ReplyDeleteHope such a thing doesn't happen in Sabah. The government did the right thing to evacuate the Hospital Queen block.
Anyone who covers up should be shot. Just like the greedy guy in Korea who caused so many to die.
Yes, engineers should do something. But I think Colonades is not the only buildings in this category. Many high rise built about 20 years ago are in the same group.
Wisma Khidmat is similar.
Only have XXXX words for the management. That's why I moved out last year.
ReplyDeleteEverywhere was cracking up and no one was interested. Maybe they don't stay there so who cares? (I only want to rent out and sell my units.)
John Chin, give us some history of Highland Towers. If that can shake them. But I doubt it. Since no one went to jail.
Colonades look nice on outside. It is lucky I saw your website. I am looking to buy but now I will look carefully. Agent tell me it is cheap. But what if it become like Queen Hospital????? Lain kali menyesal.
ReplyDeleteDON'T LOOK ON OUTSIDE. My friend lives there. Cracks every where and the management try to cover up before new one comes up.
ReplyDeleteWhy no authorities to look after such issue???? Sabah is in earthquake zone now.
I be worried if I stay in Colonades.
Colonnades Condominium - looks like a serious problem with so many complaints.
ReplyDeleteI thought I would check this out for myself so I paid a visit to some old friends in Colonnades.
They live in Cassia Block and they confirmed that it is true about the constant falling of concrete pieces everywhere. I went to the top floor (11th floor) to look and I was told that the leaking is so bad that they have to turn off the water as water was falling like rain in the floor below.
Apparently I was told, the water leaks from the top or from the side and causes the steel reinforcement to deteriorate and expand causing the concrete to fall out. One resident showed me a place where it looked like part of the the steel pieces have been broken and partially disintegrated. I asked my engineer friend with me about this and he says it is serious as it compromises the structural strength.
As I said earlier, there should be some government authority that should be responsible for this. Colonnades Condominium is not the only place having this problem.
ASTRO now feature on Highland Tower Tragedy. Please write on this. Very relevant. Don't want any building in KK to be like that.
ReplyDeleteSimilarities between Colonnades and Highland Tower.
Jangan terlalu lambat.
